"A Walk to the Cliff" is a yangqin solo composed in 2011. It's a programmatic piece interpreting the Claude Monet's 1882 painting, "The Cliff Walk at Pourville," through contour, color, and texture. Borrowing its form from traditional Chinese music, the piece depicts an imagined story behind the painting: a wistful awakening, a precarious climb, and a peaceful arrival.
"The Conversation" is an electroacoustic piece. It draws on feelings of friction and resonance that emerge during conversation. All sounds are original recordings, including samples of real conversations, captured and then processed using Pro Tools. Best listened to with headphones.
"Melpomene" is an electronic song by Rudi Zygadlo that Reylon arranged for yangqin and an acoustic ensemble called Emerge for Harvard's ARTS FIRST festival in April 2016. Laila Smith (vocals), Alex Graff (guitar), Sumire Hirotsuru (violin), Andrée Werner (cello), and Ian Askew (cajón) adapted their own parts.
